Shadow Teacher is a servicedesigned corresponding to the developmental needs of children with specialneeds. It is also a specialized service OST designed in accordance with China’sinclusive education policy. Shadow Teacher service enables students to getinvolved into new learning environment more effectively, by following withstudents enter regular school classrooms, understanding students’ in-schoolexperience, and the use of professional prompting techniques.

With the promotion of ShadowTeacher service, we can also find out more current students in OST that needthis this service. It can extend the life circle of client services, buildShadow Teacher as service of an effective add-on value.

Among children with special needsboth in OST and in the society, they will need to enter kindergarten andprimary school once they reached a certain developmental level afterintervention. Children are found to have skill deficits in many fields such aslanguage expression, problem-solving skill, group learning, observation, friendshipbuilding, time arrangement, etc.

In OST, many parents are payingmore and more attention to the concept of “inclusion”, especially for someparents with ASD kids of older ages that have the most emergent need forinclusion. However, according to the feedback of parents, we discoveredthatchildren couldn’t fully utilize their learned skills inkindergarten and school. Therefore, we developed the shadow teachers that “shadowsin class”. As they help our children in school, they also provide feedback ofstudents’ learning to special education institutions. We find out problems andsolve problems, implement inclusion thoroughly.

Service Targets

Age: Among the existing students, there are clientsover three years old who have the need to attend schools and kindergartens.

Characteristics:Client groups withspecial educational needs (not physically disabled); Intellectual disability; ASD;ADHD; Reading and writing disabilities; Gifted students; A group withoutdisputes but in need of assistance in behavior, social, or academic issues;People with needs in entering kindergarten, primary school, and high school.

Target population: Existingstudents of OST (currently this service is only available for existingstudents).
